This issue brings together texts from projects carried out as part of the PSDR 4 Programme, under the aegis of INRAE and 10 French Regions

The ‘For and About Regional Development’ research programme (PSDR) studies the role played by economic activities (primarily agriculture, agri-food and transport) and rural and peri-urban areas in regional dynamics. Led by INRA and Irstea, in collaboration with 10 French regions, its aim is to contribute to regional and territorial development through research and development operations carried out in partnership with local players.
INRA and Irstea wanted to ensure that the new phase of the PSDR programme was in line with current agricultural, territorial and regional development issues and changes in public policy. The main themes have evolved to take account of the concerns of economic, social and public players in the regions, while integrating the major structuring orientations of European regional policy (in particular the challenges of the bioeconomy in the context of Horizon 2020 or the major European transport infrastructure projects) and the CAP, not forgetting the drivers of wealth creation in the regions, such as the residential economy and tourism.
